The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications from enthusiastic, motivated and highly qualified individuals to join our group of faculty in anatomic pathology within the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation (PDI) and the MSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). Depending on interests and qualifications, the appointment may be in the Tenure System or in the Health Programs (HP) Faculty Appointment System. The successful applicant will be expected to enhance the education and service missions of the CVM and VDL and collaborate with and/or establish their own research programs in clinical and diagnostic areas. 



Applicants must have a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree as well as board certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP or ECVP). For applicants interested in appointment in the Tenure System, a PhD in a field aligned with veterinary pathology and evidence of potential for developing an extramurally funded research program is required; at least one year of post-doctoral experience is preferred.

The MSU CVM is a major referral center for companion animals and horses as well as for livestock, laboratory, zoo, and wildlife species. It has outstanding veterinary medical professionals and facilities, and it offers an excellent environment for professional growth and advancement in anatomic pathology. The VDL is one of the premier veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the United States and provides full-service laboratory support to the MSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital, as well as to clients nationally and internationally. The MSU VDL is a state-of-the-art has a large and well-established residency program in pathology which provides faculty the opportunity to participate in training the next generation of veterinary diagnostic scientists.

The successful candidate in the tenure system is expected to establish and maintain an independent research program that employs contemporary investigative techniques in an area of their interest which complements current departmental and college interests in translational biomedical research and supports graduate education. Opportunities abound for the candidate to become part of many exciting opportunities for collaborative and interdisciplinary research through MSU’s strong focus on comparative medicine and One Health.

The appointed individual must have a strong commitment to providing outstanding professional diagnostic service through the necropsy and surgical pathology services for our clinical colleagues within the CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital, as well as for private veterinary general practitioners, specialty veterinary clinics, farmers, pathology laboratories and other clients of the MSU VDL. The successful candidate will participate in the preclinical training of DVM students and will participate in advising, mentoring, and instruction of graduate students and pathology residents.
