The University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna is active in teaching and research and provides services in connection with ensuring animal health in Austria. These tasks represent our contribution to maintaining the health of humans and their animal companions as well as to producing healthy food.


To meet our objectives, our institute (Institute of Pathology and Forensic Veterinary Medicine) (Department of Pathobiology) is looking for a

PhD Student within the project: „Malaria and related haemosporidioses in wild birds”

Grade: B1
Level of employment: 30 hours
Length of employment: 3 years, starting February 2017
Deadline for applications: Dec. 9, 2016

Responsibilities

  • Development and application of newly developed in situ hybridization techniques for the detection of relevant species of haemosporidia in tissue samples of wild birds

Necessary knowledge and qualifications

  • Master degree in Biological Sciences or Veterinary Sciences
  • Basic knowledge in molecular techniques
  • Interest in morphological techniques (hematology, histology, in situ hybridization)
  • Very good knowledge in English (B2-Level, working language)

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, team-oriented attitude
  • Interest in wildlife biology
  • Some knowledge in German is advantageous

Minimum salary

The minimum salary for university staff is regulated by the collective contract and at the level given above amounts to EUR 2.022,40 gross per month.  The minimum salary may be increased when previous employment and other salary components are taken into account.
