Subject area

The subject area comprises aetiology and pathogenesis of diseases, primarily in horses, production and companion animals, how they are morphologically represented in tissues and organs microscopically and macroscopically, and how these changes are related to the clinical signs and findings in the animal.

Duties 

Overall responsibility for research and teaching within the subject area. This includes research and teaching on post-graduate and graduate levels within the departments teaching assignments, including the resident program in pathology. Supervision of pathological diagnostic procedures such as necropsies and histopathological examinations are also included. The position will include administrative work within the department and faculty. 

Qualifications 

A person who has demonstrated both good academic and good teaching skills shall be qualified for appointment as a professor. Applicants must be scientifically proficient in the subject area, should have a PhD degree and be a docent or equivalent. Applicants must be skilled in teaching and have the ability to integrate teaching and research. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching skill as to the assessment of academic skills. A veterinary degree is required for the position. 

Assessment criteria 

Assessment for the position shall be based on the degree in which a candidate possesses the skill required to qualify for the position. Furthermore, regard shall be paid to administrative and other skills of importance for the position, taking to account the subject area and the duties that the position will include. Moreover, regards shall be paid to the degree of skills, possessed by the candidate, in developing and managing activities and staff in the university and aptitude in interacting with the surrounding community and informing people about research and developing projects. During the process of evaluation of candidates, importance shall be attached primarily to scientific and pedagogic skills, but importance shall particularly be attached to scientific skills. Importance shall be attached to both current research and capacity to independently initiate and lead innovative and pioneering research, ability and interest to attract external funding, as well as the applicant’s well documented, scientific competence on a high international level within the subject area. When evaluating pedagogic proficiency, importance shall be attached to experience of planning, carrying out and evaluating teaching, as well as supervision and examination. 

The applicant's documented ability to collaborate and share research information as well as proven ability to establish and maintain national/international networks in the research area is a merit. In addition European/American diplomate or an equivalent international specialist degree in veterinary pathology is also a merit.
