The AO Foundation (www.aofoundation.org) is a medically guided non-profit organization led by an international group of surgeons specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Founded in 1958 by 13 visionary surgeons, AO today fosters one of the most extensive networks of currently more than 10,000 surgeons, operating-room personnel, and scientists in over 100 countries. A non profit organization dedicated to improving the care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and their sequelae, through research, development, education and quality assurance in the principles, practice, and result of fracture treatment.

Tasks

  • Definition of the program goals with ARI Director
  • Acquisition of research projects and research partners for the Program
  • Securing (operational and strategic decisions) that the research projects are performed with the highest standards
  • Management of Pre-clinical services (AOGCTM- Preclinical) provided to industrial partners (from acquisition to execution)
  • Supervising and supporting the operational management and strategic development of the areas within the program
  • Development and implementation of the annual budget (incl. Proposals for Strategic Investments)
  • Securing (operational and strategic decisions) that the Program maintains and acquires the highest level of Certification and Accreditation (ISO 9000; AAALAC; GLP-like studies) and maintains and increases its level of academic activity (publication, abstracts, dissertation, etc.)

The ideal candidate

  • Doctor in Veterinary Medicine and a PhD or Board certification from Colleges of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS and/or ECVS) or Human Medical Doctor
  • 10+ years experience of progressive roles in preclinical testing, priority as Principal Investigator in large animal experimental surgery or veterinary surgery,
  • Several years of work experience in project management as in personnel management
  • Trained in Good Clinical Practices and knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical studies
  • CRO services experience, or Clinical Trial Leader experience from Pharma/Biotech industry
  • Documented experience in the areas of project management, including resources, timelines and budgets
  • In addition a good history and publication record in musculoskeletal research is a high advantage
  • Excellent communication skills as well as very good language skills in English are mandatory
  • German (or French) is also useful as a secondary spoken language
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, good team player
  • Highly self motivated; entrepreneurial spirit
  • Travel requirements 10-20%.
