The Donkey Sanctuary is the largest Charity in the World dealing specifically with donkeys and mules. We have approximately 1000 staff and volunteers, supporting a number of different projects in 27 countries Worldwide.

A vacancy has arisen for a permanent Veterinary Pathologist to work in our Research & Pathology Department, based at our pathology unit located near Honiton, Devon, UK. The post presents a unique professional opportunity for a veterinary surgeon interested in equine pathology.

As the Veterinary Pathologist, you will be involved in diagnostic post mortem examinations and will oversee the clinical pathology service provided by the onsite laboratory. You will also work closely with the clinical team looking at herd health and disease trends and will contribute towards non-invasive research programmes aimed at improving donkey welfare. You will also be involved in teaching visiting veterinary surgeons and veterinary students undertaking EMS placements at the Donkey Sanctuary. By providing these services you will contribute to the Charity’s vision to improve donkey health, welfare and education worldwide. There may also be the possibility of expanding the range of diagnostic services provided in house to include histopathology.

You must hold a Veterinary Qualification recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and be eligible for pathology board certification. It would be desirable to have experience of equine practice and to have attained a DipECVP or DipACVP or FRCPath. However there may be an opportunity for an eligible candidate to benefit from additional training placements at the Royal Veterinary College to assist preparations for specialist examinations.

Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, (flexible working and annualised hours contract working may also be considered).
