Context and position description: 

Bayer is looking for a highly creative and motivated Post Doc with expertise in Pathology to join the Mechanistic Toxicology & Pathology Group in France, Sophia-Antipolis. 

The position will involve research in digital pathology in direct collaboration with other scientists from Research & Development department, and Bioinformatics group as well as leading academic research groups. The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification and selection of annotation parameters for the developing and testing Deep Learning methods to segment and classify digital pathology images within toxicological pathology. 

The position is funded by a Bayer Life Science Collaboration grant program for two years, which promotes state-of-the-art innovative research within the global Bayer organization. The successful applicant will be part of a cross-organizational team, applying deep learning within the R&D organization on our existing massive data sets. She / he will contribute to the implementation of a deep learning platform providing impact on digital toxicological pathology. 

This position is within the Pathology Mechanistic Toxicology & Pathology Group in France, Sophia-Antipolis, and reports functionally to the project lead and the Head of this group. 

Your main responsibilities are to: 

  • Be an active member of a large interdisciplinary and cross-organizational team, including scientists from both, our Pharma and Crop Science divisions across Europe. 
  • Contribute to the implementation of a deep learning platform to leverage data in toxicological pathology using deep learning. 
  • Identify and select annotation parameters for histopathological findings for deep learning algorithmic set up. 
  • Extensively validate and further improve the deep learning platform through comparing data set results with routine histology diagnostics and/or immunohistochemical staining results. 

Qualifications: 

Pathologist (m/f) in veterinary or human medicine with a PhD degree or Doctoral thesis in pathology, you have an expertise in tissue morphology. An experience with digital pathology and image analysis would be a plus. 

You have the ability and an interest to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams in an interdisciplinary IT project. Highly creative, you are comfortable with good problem solving and have the willingness to undertake challenging analysis tasks. You are recognized for your strong interpersonal skills and communication capabilities. You will appreciate to travel between different research sites. 

Oral and written proficiency in English is mandatory.

Location: Sophia-Antipolis (France- 06) 
Contract: Short-Term contract 
Terms: 18 months in France (possible extension for 6 months in Berlin in Clinical Pathology for Bayer Pharmaceuticals)
